As part of the Best for NYC Challenge, it’s worth looking at where we are and how fast we’ve got here. In the summer of 2013, two B Lab interns reviewed the state of B Corps in New York City. There were at that time seven NYC-based B Corps. There are now more than 70, two years later. That is still, of course, a drop in the bucket compared to the roughly 250,000 private businesses that the NYCEDC tracks in the city. But the purpose of the Challenge is to get more people to take notice of personnel, community, and environmental issues, so the gross numbers are less important than growth, and individual impact is less important than spreading the word.
