A Minor Rant

What is the purpose of having the floor numbers the same color as the background, particularly when the background is metal with a shine to it? It doesn’t matter what the lighting in the elevator is, the button signs are hard to read. The entire purpose of putting the floor numbers next to the buttons is to make it easy to get to your floor, and then the monochrome design takes it away.

It’s a perfect example of the design fallacy. Monochrome looks sleek, or something, at the expense of the utility of the thing itself. The presence of the braille numbers is a beautifully ironic twist: people using braille can’t tell how badly designed the button signs are.
