As The Crow Flies

I was up on a rooftop in the Bronx a few days ago and happened to look south. Most of what you see here are low-rise apartments of the 1910s (technically, New Law tenements) and the commercial strip of East 170th Street in the foreground; there’s a new apartment house under construction not far away. But just to the right of that construction site…

That’s the skyline of midtown Manhattan, as seen from the north, and dominated by Billionaire’s Row. That is what buildings with a slenderness of more than 20 look like without the effect of perspective. I was 6.7 miles (10.8 km) away and using a cell-phone camera; I can only imagine the photo I could have taken if I had a camera with a telephoto lens.
