Some terra cotta replacements are more eye-catching than others. Our work at 150 Nassau Street has attracted attention, largely because it’s hard to ignore 20-foot-tall angels.

Of course, from our perspective, the issue is not the sculptural face of the terra cotta blocks that make up each of the angels, it’s rather how we provide support so that they don’t work their way loose a second time. The straps were installed over the years before we first saw the building as a temporary fix…which was in place for decades. The strapping up close:

The strapping, or course, did not prevent further damage from water infiltration through the cracks and open joints. But it did preserve the terra cotta blocks so that Boston Valley Terra Cotta could make new molds.
