Long before the Best for NYC Challenge, and before Old Structures and its ability as a company to buy health insurance at reasonable rates, Marie and I were each working as solo practitioners. Buying health insurance as an individual is difficult and was more difficult a dozen years ago. The solution we found was buying through the Freelancers Union, which enabled people who work solo to buy insurance as part of a large group with the reduced paperwork and lower rates that implies. I was happy to see that the Freelancers Insurance Agency – part of the Freelancers Union – is a B Corp. They are a great resource for freelancers and solo practitioners.
