Best for NYC: Best Practices

Most of the best practices I’ve discussed for the Best for NYC Challenge have been things we try to do every day. But looking after our community also requires planning, which is why I was happy to be asked to take part in two design charettes on the topic of how to make New York more resilient in the face of flooding. Dozens of professionals worked at these events to brainstorm ideas for better protecting various common types of housing (rowhouses, small apartment houses and tenements, and public housing high-rises) safe during a future event similar to Hurricane Sandy.

People at Old Structures have volunteered for other events and we will in the future. Contributing our expertise to long-term planning for our community is an obvious way for us to help.
