The Cityscape

Honestly, I was just looking for an excuse to post this pretty picture.

The date is given at the Library of Congress as 1910 to 1930, but the presence of the Municpal Building on the right and the absence of the Transportation Building just south of Woolworth narrow that down to 1914 to 1926. The freight cars in the foreground are a good reminder that the Brooklyn neighborhood now called Dumbo used to be industrial; the swath of old low-rise buildings along the waterfront are a good reminder that mixed use, even in lower Manhattan, continued well into the twentieth century.

But mostly, look at this pretty picture.
